The Trumpet

Little Chicken and Thayan were clowning around and acting silly as they always did as they headed down the path that led to Club K4C. It was a Monday morning and the school was out because of a teacher’s day or something like that.

The two had nothing else to do after finishing their chores and thought they would spend the day at the club with the rest of the kids and their friend Lazurus Lion and Lambert too.

“I already know what I’m going to do at the club” said Little Chicken plucking Thayan lightly with finger feathers.

“And what’s that,” asked Thayan plucking him back and then moving quickly to the other side of the path before Little Chicken could respond.

“I want to play the drums. I been thinking about it every since church on Sunday. I like keeping a beat,” answered Little Chicken.

“Yeah, Jontell’s Dad can really play those drums,” said Thayan thinking about Sunday’s service. “Did you see, at that one time, how fast his hands were moving?"

“You could barely see them,” added little Chicken. As he tried to imitate with his hands.

“Yeah that is cool. The drums are okay, but I want to play the guitar. I like the to make the strings sing,” said Thayan.

“Maybe we can start a band,” said Little Chicken now very excited. “Yeah a Praise band.”

“But we can’t play that good. I only had a couple of lessons and must not sound too good because Mom makes me play in the garage,” said Thayan squinting as he thought about Mom’s rule.

“Well don’t forget at Club K4C everything is good,” reminded Little Chicken. “We can learn there and then when we’re ready.”

“Yeah tour time,” said Thayan smiling with his eyes now stretch wide”

The two turned the corner of the path and there appeared Club K4C. As they approached Lazurus Lion came out of the clubhouse and stood at the door. He stretched his arms up and wide and out to the side and roared Psalms 118:17 as he always did. “This is the day that the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad in it.”

“Hello Thayan. Hello Little Chicken,” shouted Lazurus as they approached the Club house and Lazurus. “Hello guys what going on. No school today.”

     “Hi Lazurus,” they answered.

“Nope school’s out today. This is why were here,” said Thayan.

Praise God roared,” Lazurus again. Perhaps we can have some fun today.”

“That what we’re were hoping,” said Little Chicken.

“Hey wait a second,” said Lazurus. I want you two to hear something.”
Lazurus Lion goes back into the Club House and comes back out with black case.

“Do know what’s in here?” asked Lazurus.

“Looks like a case for a musical instrument, said Thayan, a trumpet or a saxophone.”

“Yes,” shouted Lazurus. “You boys are good. This is my trumpet I learned how to play when I was a young lion.”

“Can we hear you play something?” said Thayan smiling real big.

“Well it’s been a while but I believe I still got it,” said Lazurus.

Lazurus opened the case and took out a shiny golden trumpet. It looked brand new, like it  had never been used before. He put it to his mouth and was ready to blow, but before he    could they heard a noise. “Hey, I hear singing said Lazurus.”

“I hear singing too,” said Little Chicken.

“I don’t hear anything,” said Thayan.

“You got to clean those big ears out,”said Little Chicken, not able to resist cracking on his buddy.

“Oh you got jokes,” said Thayan but now really listening. “It’s coming from over there. It’s getting louder.”

Around the other side of the club house and down the path that leads to Villages came the sound of beautiful music. It was getting louder, as if it was coming closer. In a minute they could see that it was group of people dressed in different kinds of clothing. They were singing and dancing and playing tambourines. It seemed like there was a hundred or so as they reached the club house yard.

Lazurus started jumping up and down. He was excited about something.

“Do you kow these people, Lazurus,” said Little Chicken.

“Well,” said Lazurus, “I know most and I glad to see them, but I’m also excited about the song they are singing.”

One of the ladies spoke, “We’re from Samaritan Village. We’re doing the Passover shout.”

“Passover,” said Thayan “I remember isn’t that when God freed His people from being slaves.

“Yes,” said Lazarus, Yes, jumping up and down again.”

Lazurus continued “That when God used Moses to free the His people from being slaves in the nation of Egypt for 400 years. They were finally going to go home to their promised land. God did a great but terrible miracle to set them free. After they were free they went into the desert with gold and silver that was given to them by the Egyptian neighbours.

“You mean they had Bling” said Little Chicken.

“Bling, Bling” said Lazurus Lion laughing and nodding to Thayan, then continuing the story.

“But the bad king, Pharaoh, did not want God people to leave, so he sent his army after them. There was a giant sea, called the red Sea, in front of them. They had no boats or ships to escape in and would not turn back. So, God did another miracle and opened up the sea and His people walked through it but on dry land. The army of the bad king went in after them, but God closed the sea and the enemy arm was destroyed.

God’s People were so excited that Moses’ sister Miriam, a prophetess took a tambourine and she and the other women began to dance and praise God for the saving them from their enemy.

Many years later God would send his son Jesus to free all mankind from the mean devil who had made all men slaves. Now through Jesus, all men who will believe in Jesus can be saved.  Now all people who believe in Him have something to sing, shout, and dance about.

“We’ll what are waiting for then, said Little Chicken. I’m saved. I believe in Jesus. I know I am free from the power of the devil. I’m ready to dance and shout.”

“Me too said Thayan I guess we get to play instrument after all today.”

Little Chicken took out the drumsticks he had in his back pocket and began to beat them together.

“God is good said Lazurus and put his trumpet back up to his mouth and blew it for the first time in years.”
